As part of its Annual Meet 2016, the Himalayan Adaptation, Water and Resilience (HI-AWARE) Research Consortium members – the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development, the Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies (BCAS); The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), India; the Climate Change, Alternate Energy and Water Resources Institute (CAEWRI) of Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC); and Alterra-WUR, the Netherlands – are jointly organizing a series of events in New Delhi and Dehradun, India from 23 February – 5 March 2016 in collaboration with select partners.

The main highlights of the Annual Meet 2016 are i) Climate Change Adaptation Policy and Science (CCAPS) Conference and ii) HI-AWARE Academy. The CCAPS conference aims to bring together experts from government agencies, research institutes and NGOs to share HI-AWARE research findings with as well as to explore how these can be leveraged to inform policy and practice to enhance climate resilience and adaptive capacity of poor and vulnerable communities living in the HI-AWARE study basins – the Indus, Upper Ganga, Gandaki and Teesta. The Academy, on the other hand, aims to strengthen the expertise of HI-AWARE-supported student researchers from the region to conduct and use transdisciplinary research on climate/social vulnerabilities, resilience and adaptation in HI-AWARE study basins. The Academy has two parts to it: a classroom-based training in New Delhi, followed by a field visit to HI-AWARE study sites in Dehradun to apply what they have learned in the classroom.

In addition, HI-AWARE is also organizing a Steering Committee Meeting, HI-AWARE working group meetings, a Consortium Research Management Team Meeting, not to mention a day-long training on “Communicating Science”, specifically targeting the student researchers.
