Background

The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), New Delhi along with Centre For Ecology Development and Research (CEDAR), Uttarakhand is organizing a workshop on “Water Access and Availability in mountain areas of Upper Ganga Basin” under the Himalayan Adaptation, Water and Resilience (HIAWARE) project (https://hi-aware.org/ ) on 4th December in Tehri. The workshop aims to understand the issues faced in the region related to water access and availability both for domestic and irrigation purpose from different worldviews. It envisages identifying response actions towards these issues faced in the context of climate change. The workshop will subsequently explore the challenges and opportunities for their implementation with the objective of creating an environment for shared understanding across stakeholders.

The workshop will have 3 sessions

  • Session 1 will introduce the issue as understood from scientific and policy perspective,
  • Session 2 will have break-away groups to reveal the problematization (construction of problem
    tree) within different stakeholder groups and also identify response actions and their desired outcomes.
    This will have a plenary for deliberations across stakeholder groups
  • Session 3 will resume the break-away groups wherein the stakeholders will identify actors, power relationships and goals (network mapping) towards influencing the identified options of session 2. This will have a plenary for deliberations across stakeholder groups
